Tips for a sign that actually works

  • Test before printing a batch

    Scan the on-screen preview with two different phones. If the link is long, a shortened link gives a simpler QR code that is easier to read.

  • Put it at eye level

    Next to the handle, roughly 1.2 to 1.6 m (4 to 5 ft) from the floor, away from glare. A laminated sleeve protects it without hurting readability.

  • One instruction, one action

    “Scan to book” or “Scan to report a problem”: one purpose per sign, otherwise nobody knows what to do.

  • Keep the link stable

    If the destination page moves, the sign becomes useless. Use an address you control and that won’t change.

Questions

Does the QR code expire?

No. It contains your link or text directly, with no redirect through a third-party service. It works for as long as the link works.

Can I use it for things other than rooms?

Yes: vehicles, equipment cupboards, projectors, bike storage… The name on the sign is up to you.

PNG or SVG?

PNG is an image you can drop into any document. SVG stays sharp at any size, which is handy for a print shop or layout software.
